Voodoo is a very confusing and complicated religion. But the magic behind it is quite simple. Once you understand that symbolism and representation are the two key factors in performing magic spells, the rest is easy. The same general rule can be followed in any type of magic spell. Take a spell to attract money, for example. Start with a dollar bill. Sign your name on it in small print. Rub any type of money by drawing oil over where your signature is. Money-making oil can be obtained through almost any type of magic or occult shop. Then take a small piece of green paper and write your name in the middle in green ink. Draw five dollar signs around your name by making a circle around it. When you do magic, you always want to use odd numbers, hence the five dollar signs. Draw a large circle around your name, including dollar signs. This seals the money with you so you don’t “lose” it. Take the dollar bill and lay it flat with your signature facing up. Then take the green piece of paper and place it on top of the dollar bill. Finally take a green pen and place it on top of the paper. take all these items and fold them in half. Continue folding them until they are small enough to fit into a gray-gray green bag. An empty gray-gray bag can be bought at a magic or occult shop for very little money. Make sure it is green to symbolize money. You can even make your own bag out of green fabric. Make sure the bag is sealed so nothing can get in or out of the bag and take it with you to attract money. It can be carried in your purse or bag, or in your pocket. Once again, a very easy spell but also very effective.
The idea of symbolism is used regardless of the type of magic you are working on. Take, for example, a voodoo doll. Say you want to make one so that someone has feelings of love towards you. You can buy a blank doll or you can make one yourself. If you make one yourself, you can fill it with Spanish moss and a combination of some herbs that have to do with love and power. For example, damiana, mugwart, orris root, and lavender would make a good combination. When you add them to Spanish moss, you get 5 fillers. Notice the “odd” number. Now you can do various things when making the doll to get the desired effect. Remember the symbolism. You may want to write your name on a small piece of paper and put it on the doll’s head. Therefore, you will always be in the person’s thoughts. Also, you may want to take a small piece of pink or red paper, cut it into a heart shape, and then write your name on it. You can sprinkle some damiana on top of your name and seal it with wax from a pink or red candle. You now have the doll’s heart with your name on it, so the person’s heart is yours. You can then place it inside the doll or place it on the outside of the doll’s chest, whichever you prefer. You want the doll to look as much like the person as possible. If you can, you can use a photo of the person’s face for your doll’s face. If you have hair or nail clippings, you can place them inside the doll. If you have access to the person’s clothes, you can use them to make clothes for your doll. If the person has scars or tattoos, be sure to draw those on the wrist as well. Finally, after sewing your doll and putting everything you want on it, the final step is to tie it to you. You can do this with a bit of your hair (if your hair is long enough) or with a piece of your jewelry or clothing. If you’re going to use your hair, which is actually the most effective, you take a small amount of your hair and braid it. After braiding it, you tie it around the wrist. If the hair is long enough, you can tie it around the doll’s arms, legs, and body. This symbolizes that you have full control over this person. You can also wear a necklace. Do the same thing and wrap it around your wrist, or you can use a ring on a piece of ribbon. Just make sure that if you wear jewelry, it should be something that you actually wear and that has personal importance to you. This is also the case if you wear an item of your clothing.
The symbolism also works for what you do with the doll. If you have a person who is angry and needs to “chill”, then you can put the doll in the freezer for a while.
