RegInOut is a “registry cleanup” tool.
These have been around for over 20 years (since Windows 95 moved to “registry” INF files), peaked in 2011, and started to decline in recent years (usually due to the rise of mobile devices).
The idea that using a “registry cleaner” tool would speed up your PC, fix errors, and generally give your system the vitality required in the modern age, is a rare commodity. Unfortunately, most “registry cleaning” tools are nothing more than bloatware.
RegInOut has been around since 2009, when it was released on Softpedia.
Since then, it has grown thanks to a combination of article/content marketing and continuous updates. Despite being on version 5, the service is still predominantly desktop-oriented, meaning it does NOT have a web-based contingent.
Generally, whenever you are looking to use a repair tool for Windows, you need to make sure that it does not cause any damage to the underlying system. This means you have to check for continuous updates (which RegInOut actually seems to have) OR a definition-based scanning system (similar to how an antivirus tool works).
With the modern world moving even more towards a “web-first” platform, it’s clear that RegInOut’s lack of web contingent has put it behind CCleaner (which has CCleaner Cloud), but, as mentioned, this doesn’t necessarily mean the system is inherently worse.
RegInOut has 4 main functions: system scan, Game Boost, registry defragmentation and startup acceleration. These are typical of most “registry cleaning” tools.
The way the system works is to manage the underlying settings that Windows uses to operate. This means that if you use the “System Scan” option, you are essentially allowing the system to clean up any errors it identifies in the registry, or with the software, on your system.
If you use the “Game Boost” feature, it basically means that RegInOut will shut down any unnecessary “services” that might be running in the background. Things like print spooling, antivirus, and other systems that just aren’t necessary if you’re gaming.
Finally, if you use the “Startup Acceleration” or “Registry Defragmentation” features, you are basically looking to eliminate any entrenched problems within the Windows system. Things like having problems within the registry or faulty applications that make your computer take much longer to start up.
The most important thing to look for with any “registry cleaner” tool is whether it has been designed by a legitimate company. Sorcim, the author of RegInOut, is legitimate and appears to be committed to publishing high-quality software.
While I am not a fan of the effectiveness of your system, along with CCleaner, which is undoubtedly the most trusted and respected of all “registry cleaning” systems, RegInOut is certainly reliable and effective. Its latest version is 5.6.2.
