Common disciplines in MMA

Mixed Martial Arts or MMA is a very aggressive and skilled full body combat sport that allows fighters from different fighting schools and trainings to combine their skills and prove themselves in the fighting rounds. It is also often called a barbarian. But MMA allows a person to instill in himself the best qualities that each sport offers and is therefore often considered better than individual sports.

Traditional martial arts aim to improve particular aspects and not provide a complete package as one may have through mixed martial arts or MMA. Grab and punch techniques are used primarily in MMA, but they also develop other aspects of a person. A detailed list of MMA disciplines is discussed in the preceding paragraphs.

The first fighting discipline included in MMA training is wrestling. Wrestling is most used in mixed martial arts or MMA. Wrestling helps a wrestler take down his opponent with great strength and flawless technique. It is useful in both conditions, that is, when the fight is carried out while standing and when the fight has reached the ground. Wrestling teaches wrestlers some explosive moves and trains them to have good endurance.

The second fighting discipline used in MMA and its training is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. This technique was made popular by Royce Gracie in 1990 when he won the first, second, and fourth Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC). The movie ‘Never Back Down’ shows this talent or fighting technique very beautifully. This technique became so popular because Royce was able to defeat people who practiced wrestling, boxing, judo, and all other forms of Asian, American, Chinese, and Japanese fighting techniques.

The next technique used in MMA is the art of Catch Wrestling. I don’t really know much about it except that it is from the English mainland and you can see that it is influenced by the Indian style fighting called ‘kushti’ and the Japanese style shooting fighting. Many fighters have used it to become agile, flexible, and learn fatal blocking techniques.

The other techniques used in MMA training are Judo and Karate. In judo, the art of ground grabbing or ne-waza and the art of standing grabbing or tachi-waza is used prominently in mixed martial arts. It provides the fighter with the enormous strength and precision necessary for the stalemate to occur and the opponent to tap. Karate, the father of kick boxing, provides strength to the fighter’s legs and adds better maneuverability and mobility to the fighter’s fighting style.

The last discipline that is used to increase the punching and grabbing techniques of fighters in MMA is the Thai form of boxing called Muay Thai. It allows the fighter to develop enormous strength and agility in movement with high levels of concentration to increase the fighter’s power. Help the fighter to use his legs, knees, elbows and fists to the best of their potential. Therefore, it is the art of the eight limbs and is the most used by MMA fighters in the UFC.
