Mold formation on your mattress is common. If you have spilled liquid on your mattress, the excess moisture that has permeated made your mattress an ideal breeding ground for mold. This type of fungus tends to grow in damp and humid places.
Even if you take good care of your bed, there are still cases where mold grows in it. If the humidity in your room is high, it can easily cause mold to form not only on your mattress but on the rest of your furniture.
Since most molds are poisonous, they are not the best companions when we go to sleep. Inhaling them can also trigger an allergy attack.
If your mattress has mold, should you throw it out right away?
If you have invested in a mattress that costs more than a thousand dollars, it will be difficult to throw it away. Today’s good mattresses are not cheap.
Throwing it away is not the only solution. First, you must inspect your bed. Find out if molds have already spread completely on your mattress. If the entire mattress is still unaffected, cleaning it can still save the mattress. The best way to get rid of molds is to use white vinegar. Dissolve these types of mushrooms quickly.
Prepare two cups of white vinegar and one cup of water. Mix them together. Put the vinegar solution in a spray bottle. Now spray the solution on all sides of the bed, especially the moldy areas. Let the solution work on your mattress for at least an hour. Traces of mold should disappear after about an hour.
Soak a clean towel in water. Squeeze out excess moisture. Wipe the damp towel on the surface of the mattress to remove the vinegar solution. Sprinkle loose baking soda on all sides of the mattress.
Baking soda really helps reduce mattress odor. In addition to that, it helps to clean the mattress and prevents molds from developing. Baking soda can also soak up excess moisture on your furniture. Leave this cleansing ingredient on the surface of the mattress. After an hour, vacuum your bed.
Place your bed in a ventilated room to dry completely. Molds will not grow if the room is ventilated and sunny.
Instead of throwing out the mattress, clean it first. If this doesn’t work, that’s the only time you should consider buying a new mattress.
